When it comes to tweets, 280 is better than 140, apparently.

Tweets making use of the extra characters Twitter enabled last month are retweeted and liked more than standard 140 character posts, according to BuzzFeed News .

Tweets ranging between 141 and 280 characters received on average nearly 13 more retweets and were liked an average 20 more times, data collected by SocialFlow between Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 showed.

The average clicks for a post were about even whether it was above or under 140 characters.

SocialFlow is a social media software company used by the Associated Press, Wal-Mart and others.

This comes as no surprise to Twitter, which figured out that longer tweets not only meant more tweets and more time spent on Twitter but more likes, retweets and mentions during a test of the 280-character limit the company did before rolling it out across the social media platform.

Twitter started testing 280-character tweets in September on a select group of users and offered it to everyone in early November.
