compared to the coldest temperature Pennsylvania has ever seen. That was -42 degrees. And that was on Jan. 5, 1904 in Smethport.
Of course, that's nothing compared to the coldest temperature ever recorded in any state. That would be Alaska (duh!) on Jan. 23, 1971, when it was -80 degrees in Prospect Creek.
