Is that ... Could it be ...

Usually, reindeer are the ones pulling Santa's sleigh. This time, it was kinda the other way around. Kinda.

On Friday, a deer wandered onto a frozen golf course pond in Sunriver, Ore., and lost its footing.

It just couldn't get itself up again.

We know the feeling.

Well, along comes firefighter Jeff "JJ" Johnston on his bright red ice-rescue sled. (We didn't even try to rhyme.)

Benjamin O'Keefe, a captain in the fire department of the resort and residential community, had his camera rolling. His video has become a sensation, garnering millions of views and picked up by broadcasters in the United States and overseas.

But instead of pulling it aboard, his pushed it.

The L4262 Sunriver Professional Firefighters posted it on their Facebook page.

"JJ was talking to it the whole time," said Tammie Waters, office manager for the Sunriver Fire Department. "The deer played along pretty good."

The video has been viewed more than 6 million times.

It was the inaugural rescue mission for the sled, which was purchased with a grant from sandwich restaurant chain Firehouse Subs, she said. The sled is meant to help someone who falls through the ice or is stuck on thin ice.

"It was a great way to get training, and rescue a deer," Waters said.
